Looking at the Light Curve III: Thar Be an Eclipse
The third post in our series on light curve analysis looks at both recent data and data from previous eclipses to answer the age-old-question: Who shot JR? Has the eclipse started in visual light?

23 September 2009 While photometrically the eclipse has been underway for a few weeks, visually it is still about the same magnitude as eta Aurigae. This morning I measured photometrically V = 3.2326 which is sightly brighter than what I go yesterday V= 3.2351. It will probably be October until the visual magnitude dims to the point of being able to easily see epsilon fainter than eta Aurigae (at 3.2). November should show it closer in magnitude to zeta Aurigae (at 3.8). Remember, this is a very slow eclipse and you are unlikely to see changes from day to day, even photometrically. By the end of October, maybe sooner, we should have a good first estimate on when first contact happened and when second contact is most likely to occur.
