David will demonstrate VStar, an easy-to use, open source variable star data visualisation tool that has been under development since mid-2009. David will talk about its development in the context of the Citizen Sky Project, and outline future plans such as the addition of period search functionality. The focus of the first Citizen Sky Project is the bright star Epsilon Aurigae, currently undergoing eclipse. The eclipse will last for almost two years and occurs only once every 27 years. David will outline the history and current thinking about the nature of this fascinating star system.
David is a Software Engineer, currently working in the area of hardware simulation and embedded software tools. In addition to his professional work, since 1991 he has developed an open source compiler, interpreter and microcontroller library.
