Citizen Sky at NARST (and AAS) conferences
I'm happy to say that a proposal has been accepted to give a Citizen Sky paper/talk at the next meeting of the National Association of Research in Science Teaching (NARST). For those new to ed research, you have to submit a formal paper to ed conferences and get it peered reviewed by a panel (usually of 3-5) before it is accepted. It's much different than astronomy conferences where there is no peer review and you just submit an abstract. The talk will be about initial results from the presurvey that most of you took when you registered for this site. Soon we'll be posting the next stage of assessments for the research project. So when/if you get a message to participate in a new survey - please accept! It means a lot for our research to have a high sample size and NSF is very interested in our results to justify their funding. So, if any of you are planning to attend NARST next March - drop me a line.
Also, we're going to have a big presense at the American Astronomical Society (AAS) meeting in DC this January. The results I'm presenting at NARST will be presented in poster form at that meeting (I'll also post it online as a PDF). Rebecca will be giving both a talk and a poster update about the project (we'll put both online as well) - and possibly a press conference. Dr. Arne (our intrepid leader) will be giving a poster about the teams and Brian will be giving a poster on the science of the epsilon Aurigae campaign so far. (I'll be giving a non-CS astro education talk too.)
