Education Session at August Workshop (Chicago)

Citizen Sky is now officially permanent part of the AAVSO. In the coming weeks we will be moving additional content to the AAVSO site and freezing this site as an archive of the 1st three years of the project. Please visit the new landing page for future updates.

An education session is planned during the upcoming workshop at the Adler Planetarium. I'll be organizing it along with Claudine Kavanagh, who runs an after school astronomy program at a local public school district in Boston. We're interested in what other educators would like to see at the session. Would you like a lab curriculum designed around observing epsilon Aurigae? Would you like background science materials (visuals and text) written at a certain level? Would you like time set aside to just share ideas and brainstorm with other teachers? Something else?Aaron

I think that it would be neat if educators had a chance to share things that have worked and have not worked in the classroom. Another subject of concern for me- "How do you get the other science teachers and administrators on board this Citizen Sky project so that the teacher gets the support needed?". That's a big one for me. Not much astronomy is taught down here in my school system.Chris Stephan

I know when I'm working with kids who don't get a lot of STEM type activities anything Ican find that is tactile or interactive really helps with the inquiry process. I would be interested in ideas along those lines. Alice
