Astro Job Announcement: Web Developer

Citizen Sky is now officially permanent part of the AAVSO. In the coming weeks we will be moving additional content to the AAVSO site and freezing this site as an archive of the 1st three years of the project. Please visit the new landing page for future updates.

Hi, all. As you may have read in this thread, our webmaster Kate Davis has left the AAVSO for greener pastures. So we are currently interviewing for a new web developer. The official job description is below. Please pass this along to anyone who may be interested and repost to FB, local astronomy clubs, etc. This is a permanent position.

WEB DEVELOPER

The American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) is
looking for a web developer with PHP and MySQL expertise. The web
developer will be responsible for management of the AAVSO web
presence, maintaining and developing new web-based applications
and the management of a collection of MySQL-based back end
databases. Required skills include advanced knowledge of PHP 5
and MySQL 5 along with design and information management
skills. Knowledge of Drupal 6, perl, and Java would be very
beneficial, but are not required. Experience with high
uptime/high-load database environments and tweaking LAMP systems
for better web performance would be useful. The applicant should
have a strong interest in and knowledge about astronomy.

The AAVSO is a small, non-profit organization so flexibility, a
sense of humor and the ability to self teach are big advantages.
Located in Cambridge, MA. and entering its 100th year of service,
the AAVSO provides a competitive salary, full health care,
continuing education and other benefits in a relaxed work
environment. The estimated start date for the position is Fall
2010, but is flexible. We do not pay relocation costs.

Please send a cover letter and resume/C.V. to Aaron Price via
e-mail at aaronp@aavso.org. Please, no telephone calls or recruiters.

Well, Kate did not leave us for greener pastures - there are no greener pastures than the AAVSO. She left us for different pastures. :-) ---- Doc Kinne, [KQR]
