Low-res Spectroscopy with Star Analyser

Hi all!

I made an impulse buy of a Star Analyser 100 (not yet shipped) and while it will probably not allow to do meaningful measurements for Eps Aur, I wonder whether others here have started their spectroscopy experiments with this simple gadget and could provide some useful hints what can be done with it. My other equipment is a 6", f/5 Newtonian and DSLR (CCD to come later if budget allows :-) ).

A good decision :-) If you have not done so already, you are welcome to visit my website where I describe asimple techniqueto record low resolution spectra of bright stars like epsilon Aurigae with the just the Star Analyser and a DSLR plus telephoto lens. http://www.threehillsobservatory.co.uk/astro/spectroscopy_11.htm There are also lots of other Star Analyser spectra elsewhere on the website Any questions? , ask away There is also a Yahoo goup for Star Analyser users here http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/staranalyser Robin

Thanks for the liinks, I will definitely have tons of questions once I hold the SA 100 in my hands and give it a first light. What tipped me to finally ordering one was a remark from Jeff Hopkins during the latest DSLR chat, he described the technique of mounting the Star Analyser in front of a tele lens on a DSLR, the way it is described on your website. This is so ingeniously simple that I really want to try this as well, in addition to the more traditional ways to bring it into the light path of a telescope. CS HB
