R Leonis in maximum, i.e. how to hunt three ducks in one shot.

Citizen Sky is now officially permanent part of the AAVSO. In the coming weeks we will be moving additional content to the AAVSO site and freezing this site as an archive of the 1st three years of the project. Please visit the new landing page for future updates.

From a half of March 2012 I observe R Leo using DSLR photometry technique. The Mira-type variable reached brightness maximum of about 6,1 magnitudo in April and now is fading. Lucky within 3 degrees of R Leo I found two more variables of similar brightness: 1. DV Leo - a variable of SR type, which changes the brightness from about 7,8 to 8,2 magnitudo, 2. DY Leo - a variable of RS CVn type with variability of about 0,05 magnitudo (7,59-7,64). The variables easily fit within FOV of my setup (Cannon 400D+lens 85mm). For intermediate reduction spreadsheet I have taken 13 comparison stars with brightness between 5,1 and 8,2 magnitudo, color index B-V between -0,04 and 1,63. Comparison stars surround the variable stars. 18 Leo is a check star. I have attached the light curves from the AAVSO database. My observations of R Leo fit quite well with observations of the other AAVSO observers. I am particularly pleased with observations of DV Leo. There is only a few observations of DV Leo in the AAVSO database. But yet DY Leo is on the limit of accurancy of my observations. This way I hunted "3 ducks" (R Leo, DV Leo, DY Leo) in one shot ...
