Science Olympiad

Citizen Sky is now officially permanent part of the AAVSO. In the coming weeks we will be moving additional content to the AAVSO site and freezing this site as an archive of the 1st three years of the project. Please visit the new landing page for future updates.

Part of our NSF proposal is the development of Science Olympiad activities for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 olympiads. Donna Young is going to be working on that as soon as NSF decides to teach us their secret handshake. If anyone would like to try out the materials post here and we'll send them to you first. Also, if anyone is participating or leading a Science Olympiad team then this would be a good place to share ideas and ask questions. If you are a teacher/parent who have always been considering starting such a team - now may be a good time!

For the past several years Ihave been asked to create the 'tests' for a large regional Science Olympiad so I am thrilled to have a resource to work with!!! I was always very nervous just using the S.O. outline to create the tests they wanted and trying to get close to what they might see at the State level. I'll have lots of questions and it would be great to create practice material and practice tests as a group. Cheers, Alice

Donna said she plans to start working on them in a few weeks. I'll post an update in late August. Maybe by then we'll have some draft materials to play with.

I just wanted to post an update about the Science Olympiad materials. I spoke with Donna today and she said that she's about half-way completed. She is currently editing the Astronomy Coach's Manual and expects it to be done in a few weeks. It will then be distributed on the overall Science Olympiad Coach's Manual Collection CDROM through the Science Olympiad organization and web site ($15). Of course, we'll post the Citizen Sky specific stuff online for free download as well. So at this point I would expect it to be online in late November.
