Hi - I've just joined CS to say congratulations to the team on preparing this training manual (Southern 10-Star Tutorial)!  My computer is having glitches today and I can't open pdfs for some reason, but I accessed the main tutorial page on Citizen Sky.  I can see a few glaring errors in the summary table for a start - Alpha Orionis is a summer, not winter, southern object, and similarly W Sagittarius is a winter, not summer, southern object.  Also, I am unaware of any southern hemisphere English-speaking countries that use the term "Fall".  It is Autumn.  Fall is a peculiarly North American term. Pedantic maybe, but if the object is to correct a perceived Northern Hemisphere bias and encourage & assist new southern people to participate, using "Fall" will turn them away in droves!

I hope these comments are taken constructively - it's a great initiative!

Cheers -

EDIT:  Aaron has made a few alterations to the main page, thanks so much!  Hopefully I'll be able to help spread the word about this initiative!

Yes. I was able to fix it quickly thanks to Rob's quick reporting. The error was on the main web page and not in the tutorial itself. I just rushed creation of the page and my northern bias came through! Shame on me. :)

Hi Aaron, I'm a little confused. Did we use winter or summer on the tutorial? I thought we only used months on the information about the stars. Also don't remember using auturmn or fall. Is that what you had put on there when you put it on the website? I can't find anything like that now there, so I assume all is fixed and acceptable to everyone, right? Thanks. All fixed now Joan! I still haven't been able to download your tutorial (problem my end, not your end) but it seems it was just the information on the website. I have sprinkled information on the tutorial around a couple of Australian astronomy forums. All the best with it! Cheers - Rob

Hi Rob, Thanks for spreading the word. If you find other problems with the tutorial, just let us know. I hope many people will begin using it! Cheers, Joan<!--Session data-->
