At the URL below is a video of the 2002-2008 AAVSO light curve of chi Cygni sync'd with a simulation of the expansion and contraction of the star.
However, before you watch it, ask yourself these questions:

What are the common ways intrinsic variable stars like this one change in brightness? How does that differ from a star like epsilon Aurigae?
As the star gains brightness in the light curve, what do you expect to happen in the simulation?
